Exploring life's deepest questions through compelling stories.

I write thought-provoking books that examine faith, suffering, and the human condition. Does God Care? seeks to understand if God is weak, uncaring, or non-existent in a world filled with pain and suffering.

About

Hi, I'm Geoffrey E L Bennett

I have endured suffering and pain, and have shared with others. Observing bombs falling, sleeping in shelters and cupboards, on active service in the Malayan Emergency, working as an army nurse in two military hospitals and burying bodies, I began to wonder if God is non-existent, incompetent or cruel.

Later I studied Theology, and became Assistant Chaplain in a Kent Hospital. My father was severely burnt from neck to ankle, Christine (my wife) developed brain tumours with Dementia and paralysis, while I suffered from two lots of cancer, broke my neck in a fall, and have Diabetes, Angina, Cramps and Arthritis.

My book, "Does God Care?" is an autobiography of my search for answers. Starting with religions, I found no answer. Then the Bible seemed to offer no clue until I studied Job and Isaiah, when a little began to make sense. But the teaching of Jesus in the Gospels answered so much more, that God is Love and does Care.

DOES GOD CARE?

"IS GOD INCOMPETENT" seeks to find out if God is weak, uncaring, cruel, or non-existent in a world where pain and suffering exist. How can earthquakes, volcanoes, floods, disease, birth defects, wars, deformities, famines and countless other events that cause millions of deaths, intense pain and mental suffering, be part of a "loving God"?

Why I wrote "IS GOD INCOMPETENT":

I lived through World War II, my parents separated a number of times, and eventually divorced. I lived with my grandparents, my grandfather died and grandmother suffered from Dementia. I joined the Royal Army Medical Corps aged 17, was hospitalised four times, had to coffin and bury bodies, saw many deaths, and was posted on Active Service to The Malayan Emergency.

Later, my father was severely burnt and my wife developed brain tumours, Dementia, Paralysis and died. Having cared for my wife over six years, I became Diabetic, developed two lots of Cancer, Angina, diseased lungs and high blood pressure.

You can understand why I wondered if God was unreal, incompetent or uncaring. I began to study, and wrote "IS GOD INCOMPETENT" in 2003. My study of Geology, Scientific Research and new Medical discoveries, helped me to update and revise my book.

There are 3 parts to "IS GOD INCOMPETENT":
  1. The author's own and his family's suffering, with an examination of other religious viewpoints.
  2. An examination of Biblical Passages that seem to show God as an uncaring source of evil. An intense study of the Book of Job, and other parts of the Old Testament suggest a glimmering of answers. A study of the teaching of Jesus in the New Testament shows a loving God who cares for His creation.
  3. The final section deals with 21st Century answers. Is the Bible just mythical nonsense? is faith meaningless? Does such a thing as a God exist? How do we understand natural suffering, pain and God from Geology, Astronomy, Modern Science and current Medical Knowledge, etc.? Is there a spiritual world of Hell and Heaven? Is there any answer, or is "God" meaningless? The author reveals his own answer to every question.
